Are Dental Implants Worth It?

Tooth loss can happen for a variety of reasons, common factors ranging from an illness or regarding an individual’s age, this can cause low self-esteem for many. However dental implants provide a long term solution for these dental issues. A dental implant is essentially a replacement for a natural root and it is designed in a screw or cylinder shape.

The Process Of Dental Implants

The process of a dental implant requires each implant to be placed carefully and precisely in the area of the missing tooth.

Occasionally, the implant can be placed during the same time as tooth removal which can be processed on the same day. If the specific implant has a screw thread on the exterior surface, it will be screwed in the intended location.

However, if this is not the case it can also be tapped in. During this treatment the main goal of any implant is to attain immediate close proximity with the location of the bone. This gives stability at first hand which over the course of time is carefully developed by further growth of the bone.

Who Is This Treatment Suitable For?

Dental implants are suitable for individuals who have signs of healthy gums and those who have a suitable amount of  bone strength.

This is so that the dental implant can be supported by the patient’s surrounding dental area. An initial consultation will be necessary to determine the compatibility of dental implants Hertfordshire. To do this an X-ray will be required to examine the health of the surrounding area.

Initial Appointment

At the initial appointment to lessen the amount of pain a local anaesthetic will be used. A patient will then be asked to brush their teeth and rinse their mouth concluding this with an antibacterial mouthwash.

Sterile sheets will be set up along with the surgical staff also wearing sterilised uniforms. A patient will be required to wear a sterile hair net and gown which will also come along with a disinfectant skin wipe.

This is done to ensure a high implant success rate following safety precautions. An incision will then be located in the gum so that the implant can be installed followed by some resorbable sutures

Aftercare

After the surgical process is completed the patient will be advised to rinse the mouth with an antibacterial mouthwash.

A patient will be asked to do this for one week post surgery, there is also the option to take analgesics but it is not common. This should be done in preparation for the review appointment which should be set 2 weeks after the treatment. Any residual sutures will be removed along with following up on the healing process.

Long Lasting And Cost Effective

Dental implants are designed to last, giving the same effects as natural teeth. With appropriate care dental implants can last for almost a lifetime.

Dental implants in comparison to other restorative procedures are much cheaper taking into consideration their duration, therefore they are cost effective. Not only will they look like your own teeth, but they will also feel like your own teeth.
